 Achilles Tendon Pain Causes And Healing Exercises for Relief. Achilles Tendon pain is any pain that arises out of straining the Achilles Tendon. This tendon is the strongest and the longest tendon in the human body and can be felt right behind the heel. It is really long and thick tendon that connects the heel bone to the calf muscle. Our Achilles tendon is the facility that helps us to run, jump and perform complex sports functions at blazing speeds. However, it can get strained in activity and cause a lot of pain.

Causes of Achilles Tendon Pain and How To Relieve them.

  • Tendinitis : Achilles tendon pain is mainly caused by overuse of this tendon. Excessive working of the Achilles tendon may be strained during running, jumping and eccentric loading of the legs, like in basketball where you have to do a lot of pivoting. In such a case, you can overcome mild pain by taking rest. Do not overwork your Achilles tendon. And the best remedy is to apply ice on the tendon and surrounding area. 
  • Intermittent Sports : People who play sports only on weekends or those who exert themselves intermittently can have Achilles Tendon pain. In order to keep the tendon flexible and working fine, one should stay active everyday. In old age, the elasticity of tendons in the body reduces. If you play too much of weekends, this may strain the tendon and cause mild body pain. So, exercise regularly , even if it is for a short period of time. 
  • Stress Causes Pain in the Achilles Tendon : Yes, that is right, even stress can cause pain in the Achilles tendon. If you have been going through a low phase or emotional stress, it can trigger pain in the Achilles tendon. 
  • Achilles tendon can pain if you have has surgery on it or nearby. Surgeries do not normally have pain but if you feel it, you should consult the doctor. 
  • High Heel Shoes : Women who wear extra high heels are really at a high risk for straining the Achilles tendon. 
Healing Achilles Tendon Pain with Exercises : Studies have found that strengthening the Achilles tendon through certain exercises really benefits in relieving chronic Achilles tendon pain that many runners and athletes feel.  These are the exercises that help to tone the Achilles tendon.
  • Heel Drops are one of the best stretching exercises that works on this tendon. Do a mild heel drop workout after you have gotten fine. Do this regularly and you are going to get strong Achilles tendons. 
  • Walking Calf Raise : It is a simple exercise that anybody can do. While walking, just lift on your toes and do this for some time. 
  • Walk Tip Toed for sometime on grass or soft surfaces that do not hurt your legs.
Achilles tendons are fragile and may degenerate as you get older. Take proper care and keep them worked up but not overworked. It is vital to the support of your feet.
